Boundless: Session Zero

Character Creation

Hello! This is session zero for a solo playthrough with Boundless from Fari RPGS! René-Pier Deshaies-Gélinas is a fantastic game designer. I’ve tried a previous version with my family, and my fiancé and I played Voidlight from him (one of her first TRPGS!) and would also recommend.

We are going to go through the character creation process. Boundless also has a selection of character Backgrounds you can choose to get up and running right away. There are four attributes: Strength, Agility, Presence, and Willpower. You can assign four scores to attributes in any order: 4, 3, 2, and 1. I’m a simple person and, as my many Soulsbornes runs will tell, I’m a sucker for Strength builds. Let’s go with this spread:

Hit points are equal to 4 + Strength + Agility, giving us 10 Hit Points. Next is items. There are tables to roll on; the character sheet at the end of the book also has kits you can roll on. I’m going to use the tables for this character.

Weapons: I rolled two six-sided dice (d6 for short) and got a 1 and 3 for a Longsword.

Armors: Rolled one d6, got a 5 and received a Shield

Items #1: Rolled one d6, got another 5 (let’s hope this carries over) and have an Animal Trap.

Items #2: Rolled a d6, !5! again, and have Parchment & Ink.

Items #3: Rolled a d6, 4; Crowbar

Keepsakes: Rolled two d6; 2:2 (this is my shorthand for results when I roll two six- sided dice); Bone Charm

Coins: Rolled 1 d6 x 10 (5x10=50)

Let us random roll for name and character traits. I love a random rolled character to flesh out. There are five categories for names based on where we are from. I’ll roll a d6 to determine the where, then roll for name. Rolled a one, so we are from Kelmora. Rolled 6:5 which is Dorn, and 5:5 for Rurik. Dorn Rurik. Now, for character details!

Physique-Muscular. Ages-Young. Looks-Sharp. Hairs-Curly. Speeches-Quiet. Virtues-Compassion. Flaws-Distrust. Drives-Honor. Bonds-Companion. Debts-Favor. Local Reputation-Disreputable.

We are a young, muscular man with sharp looks and curly hair. We tend to be quiet, while valuing compassion. In spite of this, we tend to distrust those who aren’t our companions. We are driven by honor, though we tend to owe a lot of favors. Which leads to our hometown finding us disreputable.

Tomorrow, we’ll kick things off in our hometown of Kelmora and see where the oracles take us.
